To lose weight you must burn more calories that you take in. You can accomplish weight loss faster if you eat foods that boost your metabolism such as whole grains, fish and foods high in protein. These foods are low in calories and contain all the nutrients you need to lose weight in a timely matter. Along with following a low-calorie diet you must remember to exercise three to four times a week with cardio activity such as walking or jogging. Losing weight can be difficult at first if you don’t have energy and motivation but you must stay dedicated to being healthy and keep the weight off.


I love fish such as salmon, tuna and sardines because they have a good source or protein and Omega-3 fatty acids which boost up your metabolism and is healthy for your heart. I use to eat a lot of fried fish but now I find myself backing it because it’s more healthier and not so greasy. One of my favorites is backed Tilapia with mixed vegetables. Our bodies contain this hormone called leptin and when the leptin levels are low, our metabolism runs faster requiring us to burn more calories.


Whole grains such as oatmeal are great for breakfast and can help speed up your metabolism as well. Whole grains contain energy and glucose in which our body needs to help to brain function well and keep the blood flowing. I also choose whole grain bread and rice over while bread or rice because the nutrients are not refined. I remember when I use to eat white bread all the time until I tried some whole grain bread and I never went back since. Now white bread tastes funny to me and it’s not enriched like whole grain bread. These foods regulate insulin in the bloodstream and digest slowly which keeps thing running smoothly. Your body won’t try to store so much fat if you keep the insulin levels low which is a good thing.

Foods high in protein such as eggs, legumes, peanut butter and lean meats do a terrific job at speeding up your metabolism and building that muscle tissue. I try to stay away from red meats like steak and hamburger as much as possible and stick to white meats such as fish or chicken. I don’t eat pork so that’s the only white meat ruled out. Peanut butter is rich in monounsaturated fats and protein so it should be included in your diet plan but eaten moderately. Eating a variety of nuts will also benefit your weight loss and keep your metabolism going.


Now that you have these foods that boost you metabolism you can incorporate daily physical activity along with it to make your weight loss efforts successful. You won’t burn as much calories just by eating healthy and not exercise properly.
